The Canadian Urban Institute's annual Brownie Awards program recognizes leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability in brownfields redevelopment across Canada. Working with key industry and professional organizations, the Canadian Urban Institute presents its awards at its Brownfields conference, held in October each year.

The Canadian Urban Institute endorses the efforts of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy to remove barriers to brownfields redevelopment across Canada and is committed to promoting awareness and an improved understanding of opportunities to regenerate urban sites and neighbourhoods.

The Canadian Brownfield Network (CBN), a new national brownfield network for the industry practitioners and stakeholders was formed by the Canadian Urban Institute and aboutREMEDIATION.com in March 2003.
