Toronto is at the centre of one of the fastest growing economic regions in North America. It is an attractive city for new immigrants, as well as to youth from rural areas in search of better employment opportunities. However, Toronto's job market is in transition, changing from a centre for manufacturing to a region providing quality, innovative services in the financial, hospitality, education, health and administrative areas. Toronto is also one of the centres for the information and culture industries.

As the market changes, how can employers find the people they need and who exactly is it that they are looking for? What are the key industries that will be growing in the future and what skills will those industries require?

Toronto developed a reputation as the “city that works” in large measure because of efficient transit and high quality transit-oriented development. As the GTA grows in size and density, how do we continue to build the core and the region to marry urban form and transit in an effective, efficient and beautiful way? “Designing Transit Cities” on Friday, November 20 is the CUI’s headline event in a multi-session series organized by the Canadian Urban Institute, the City of Toronto, TTC, Metrolinx the Toronto Society of Architects and the Cities Centre at the University of Toronto.
The intent is to give the public and urban practitioners an opportunity to better understand how we can grow the City around Transit.

There will be a free public event on the evening of November 19 (no registration), a CUI morning session on the morning of November 20 (registration required), and three free practitioner-focused seminars in the afternoon (no registration).
